Built in 1855, the Bell House, is home to the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings, a part of the Townsend School of Music, Mercer University. Located at 315 College Street, the historic Macon landmark is perfectly suited to accommodate the Center’s enrollment limit of 26 students, with dedicated practice rooms and teaching spaces on the second floor, and a 60-seat performance hall, which presents the annual McDuffie Center Young Artists free concert series. Visitors to the Bell House will find a Historic Macon Music Registry plaque acknowledging the column-draped front porch as the site of the Allman Brothers Band’s debut album cover.
